CCSD 46 puts student and staff safety first, which is why the district takes several factors into consideration when determining whether to close schools due to extreme weather. The following are some criteria that are used when making school closure decisions. Invariably, there will be situations that do not fit into these guidelines in which case the administration will do its best to provide cancellation information to families as soon as possible.

Inclement Weather Guide

Flu and School

To help keep flu and illness outbreaks to a minimum, CCSD 46 is asking that all students and families follow these simple steps:

  1. PLEASE keep sick children home from school until they are fever-free for 24 hours without medication, such as Tylenol or ibuprofen (fever = 100 degrees) and their cough is gone!

  2. Teach your children to COVER THEIR COUGHS and wash hands often. Hand sanitizers are also effective.

  3. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all school-age children receive a flu vaccine.

  4. Prepare in advance. Have alternative childcare providers available if YOU cannot stay home or pick up your sick child at school. SICK students cannot remain at school!

  5. PLEASE report your child's absence to school and tell us if there are specific symptoms or diagnosis. This helps us track illness trends.

  6. Make sure the school has current phone numbers to reach you and your emergency contacts.
