On Friday, October 25, 2013, the Racho family of Hainesville lost their home to a fire. The Rachos have three children who attend Prairieview and Frederick Schools in CCSD46.

Monday morning the Racho family met with staff from both Prairieview and Frederick and were touched by the overwhelming care and support our community has shown them. We would like to thank everyone who has inquired about how they can help support the Racho family. If you are interested in donating something to the family, please take a look at the following links:

All monetary donations can be submitted to: Racho Family

Anyone with item donations can email the Racho family directly at the following email address: with what you have to donate. Once the needs of the family become more apparent, they will be able to email you back directly.

The process of rebuilding is going to be a long one, with the needs of the family every-changing. Items not needed at this time may become crucial as the rebuilding continues. Thank you for your generous offers and unconditional support!

Hearing and vision screenings will be taking place in D46 schools in October.

Children in Preschool, Kindergarten, First, Second, Third and Special Education will receive a Hearing Screening.

Children in Preschool, Second, Eighth and Special Education will receive a Vision Screening.

Vision Screening is not a substitute for a complete eye and vision evaluation by an eye doctor. Your child is not required to undergo a vision screening if an optometrist or ophthalmologist completed and signed a report form indicating that an examination has been administered within the previous 12 months. If applicable, please provide your school with a copy of your child's eye examination.

High Heat Related School Schedule Changes

Due to the high heat and humidity that the Chicagoland area has experienced this week, the decision was made to reduce the student attendance hours at Woodview and Meadowview schools. CCSD 46 follows the guidelines of the "Child Care Weather Watch" chart which indicates dangerous heat, cold and wind-chill factors to consider in our decisions to close buildings, or modify our education schedules.

We have been monitoring temperatures in rooms at both Meadowview and Woodview three times a day. We also watch trends for overnight temperatures to determine the best times for attempting to bring cooler air into the buildings. Unfortunately brick buildings tend to retain heat, and we cannot leave doors or windows open in our buildings after hours.

Room temperatures on Tuesday without students ranged from 80-89 degrees. Wednesday morning, before students arrived, the average temperature was approx. 80 degrees. The temperatures rose an additional three degrees in the afternoon, without students in the rooms.

There have been many questions regarding missed attendance days due to the heat and our decision to cancel afternoon classes at these two buildings. The missed days will not need to be made up for Meadowview and Woodview students. While this is certainly not ideal, we must keep the health and safety of our students and staff in mind at all times.
