Congratulations to the GMS band and chorus members who participated in the "Music in the Parks" Competition at Great America on May 6th. The Concert Band, Jazz Band, Chorus and Jazz Choir ALL received a rating of "Excellent," and the highest honor of the evening, the "Esprit De Corps Award" was given to Grayslake Middle School for their overall behavior, politeness, and citizenship. GMS received this award out of every elementary, middle and high school group at the competition.
In the past fourteen years of participating in this activity, this is the "2nd" time GMS has brought this honor home! Ratings for the over-all events:

PowerSchool Parent/Student Portal
The CCSD46 PowerSchool Portal will be opening on Monday, March 16, 2009 for parents and students in grades 5-8. Parents/Guardians will be receiving a letter home in the mail with login information and passwords which will enable access to their student's school information.

Grayslake Middle School to present "Winter Holiday Concert"
On Tuesday, December 16th, the Grayslake Middle School Music Department will present a night of holiday music from around the world. Under the direction of Mrs. Karen Novack and Mr. Steven Thomas, both directors have been busy with the GMS performing ensembles for the past two months preparing the students with different cultural music from around the world. The evening will feature; The GMS Jazz Ensemble, The Vocal Jazz Choir, Treble Choir and Concert Band. The evening will also feature the audience to sing along in a tribute to "Magical Winter" holiday songs. The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the GMS large gym.
All performing ensemble members need to dress in full concert black attire for the evening. A reminder after the conclusion of the show, poinsettia pickup will be available.
Finally, on Friday, December 19th at 9:00 a.m., the GMS music ensembles will perform a morning assembly for the entire school. Parents and guests are welcome to join us at this event too!

The first musical to pay real attention to the new rock 'n' roll craze, will come alive at Grayslake Middle School on December 11th, 12th, and 13th at 7:00 p.m. Composed of a cast of thirty-four seventh and eight grade actors and actresses, a backstage crew of fourteen and a live pit band of eighteen this winter musical production is sure to ROCK the Grayslake Middle School Gymnasium.

8th Grade Celebration Craft Show
The GMS/Park Campus 8th Grade Celebration Craft and Vendor Show is being held to raise funds for the GMS/Park Campus 8th Grade Celebration at the end of the 2008-2009 school year. The show will include crafters, vendors, a bake sale, and a raffle. We are looking for a variety of vendors/crafters to participate. Grayslake Middle School boys soccer team wins their first ever Suburban Middle School Conference title with an undefeated season! The team set school records for most wins (14), most shut outs (11), most goals scored (91), and fewest goals allowed (8), in becoming the first soccer champions in the school's history!

District 46 Showdown
Mark your calendars for the 9th Annual District 46 Showdown!
A tradition since 2001, this event pits the staffs of Frederick School, Grayslake Middle School, and Park Campus against each other in a friendly, competitive basketball game. The Showdown is sponsored by the PTO's from each of the schools and is a fun way to foster school spirit across District 46.

Graduation News!
We are pleased to announce that the CCSD #46 Eighth Grade Graduation Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2009.
All eighth grade students will attend full days of school on June 3rd and 4th, 2009. The
graduation ceremony will take place at 7:00 pm in the Grayslake Central High School Field
House. Specific information will be coming home in the forthcoming months.
Looking for twelve 7th graders and twelve 8th graders to be part of the 2008-2009 GMS Yearbook! Please fill out the registration form and return it to Mrs. Kiddle by Friday, October 3rd. First meeting is scheduled for October 9th! Return your form ASAP as it is first come, first served. If there is an overabundance of interest, a drawing will take place.
