September News
Parents, both Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Novack have sent students home with a "Music, Band & Chorus Handbook" that includes grade requirements, concert and contest evaluations, concert dates, contest dates, daily classroom materials needed, uniform fittings, and much more. All information will also be posted here on the district website.

Band and Chorus 2008-2009 Uniform News
Saturday, September 20th is uniform distribution and pick-up. We have 180 uniforms to distribute to students. Please arrive between 8:00 AM - 12:00 Noon. All fee payments are due at this time. Students need to be measured for pants during this day. All other parts of the uniform have been pre-ordered and are ready!
New students who have not been part of the GMS music program will need the following: one band/chorus blue GMS T-shirt, one black band color tux shirt (students will keep these at the end of the season). Students will rent black GMS tux pants - cleaning fee required. Students will be responsible for black dress shoes and socks. Total fee: $30.00 for new students.
Returning 8th grade members of band and chorus: one band/chorus blue GMS T-shirt (from last season). one black band color tux shirt (students will keep these at the end of the season). Congratulations to the New GMS Vocal Jazz Group
The GMS music program has a new look and sound. Congratulations to this year's 2008-2009 vocal jazz group. Rehearsals are held each week on Monday only from 3:20-4:15 PM. Reminder that your student activity fee will be due on October 1st.
Jazz Band Auditions Are Complete
Congratulations!!
Jazz band will begin practice on Tuesday, September 16, in the band room from 3:20-4:30 weekly. A reminder that this is a full year commitment for Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Your student activity fee will be due on October 1st.

This year's Musical perfprmance is....Bye Bye Birdie! Directed by Mrs. Novack, Mr. Thomas, Ms. Chappell & Mrs. VanLaeke
Audition Schedule:
SEP 14 Musical voice and dance auditions
SEP 17 Information meeting and student packets districution for auditions. This includes: cast, crew, and pit band musicians.
SEP 22 Singing and dancing clinics
SEP 23 Singing and dancing clinics
SEP 25 Call-backs for major speaking roles
SEP 26 Cast announced and posted
SEP 30 First cast meeting - cast, crew and pit band auditions
OCT 1 Vocal Rehearsal and schedules out
Students will be given weekly/monthly rehearsal schedules. Saturday rehearsals will be included in this year's production due to LIVE stage band. We will also hold three performance nights this year.
Musical Activity Fee Information:
Activity fee is $100.00 for cast members plus $5.00 for T-shirt order (two separate payments)
Activity fee for crew and pit band is $15.00 which includes a T-shirt for the activity. This is the first year that we will charge for crew and pit-band to ensure that they are committed to the activity. Plus, we want all students to wear their T-shirt for the show productions.
