Science Olympiad – State Champs!
Frederick School's Science Olympiad team earned first place in the State finals at the University of Illinois in Champaign on Saturday, April 14th. Frederick students took home individual medals in 11 of the 26 events, and First Place overall in Class A, a first for the school. The team was coached by Aaron Mulder and Alec Renner. Their season is now over, but their strong performance may place them into a higher division next year with a chance to compete at the national level.

Summer Academy registration has begun! Summer Academy will run from June 11-July 3rd this year. Classes will run from 8:15 am- 11:55 am Monday-Thursday. Registration fees are $80 per course if before April 27th. Fees raise to $85 per course after April 27th. There are many classes being offered, including remedial (second helping) classes and enrichment courses. Sign up your child for a fun-filled summer of learning!

Congratulations to the Frederick School Cadet Band on the IGSMA (Illinois Grade School Music Association) contest performance Friday, March 9, 2012 at Antioch Upper Grade School. The Cadet Band received a Division 1 rating. They performed well and were professional in their conduct. Mr. Rivera and Mr. Mulder are very proud of their efforts.

Grayslake North and Central Launch Annual Project ONE-27 benefiting Bear Necessities
Be There for the Bear!
Grayslake North and Grayslake Central have once again teamed up for the second annual Project ONE-27 fundraiser in which students at both schools raise money for a charity chosen by the student body. This year, the chosen charity is Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation, an organization with Grayslake ties that provides hope and support to kids with cancer. Every $500 raised will purchase a "Bear Hug," a fun and encouraging event/experience planned in consultation with a pediatric cancer patient's doctors and family. Throughout the month of February, North and Central will be hosting a variety of events that will help raise money for this charity. Some highlights include:
• Sales of Bear Necessities teddy bears and t-shirts
• Dine & Donate days at local restaurants (February 20 at Bulldog's Grill in Grayslake; February 22 at Culver's of Grayslake, February 23 at Mitch's in Grayslake, and all month at Chili's in Round Lake Beach)
• Battle of the Bands at Grayslake North on February 25 from 6-10pm

Congratulations to Frederick School, Park Campus and Avon Central School for their top 10 placements in the 23rd Annual Attendance Week! Frederick School took first place in the Large Elementary category with Park Campus taking 5th place. Avon placed 10th in the Small Elementary category. Kudos also to Grayslake District 127 for both high schools placing in the top 10 category for High Schools.

BEGINNING BAND PROGRAM
If you have not signed up your son or daughter for band, and would like them to participate, there will be an informational meeting next Tuesday evening here at Frederick. You can arrive any time between 5 and 7 PM for a quick introduction to the program and the opportunity to rent an instrument from Quinlan & Fabish. If you have already signed up your child, you do not need to attend this meeting. All students will receive a schedule with lesson groups next week at school.
