Each year, the Illinois Honor Roll celebrates the accomplishments of outstanding Illinois public schools. In 2007, the Illinois Honor Roll acknowledges 1177 schools in three categories that reflect the diverse circumstances of Illinois schools:

Spotlight Schools
508 high poverty, high performing schools are beating the odds and overcoming the “achievement gap.”

Academic Improvement Awards
607 schools show substantial gains over three years.

Academic Excellence Awards
166 schools have sustained high performance over at least three years.

Grayslake Middle School was chosen as 1 of 207 Middle Schools to be awarded and Academic Improvement Award from the Illinois State Board of Education and Northern Illinois University. View the letter from Christopher Koch, Ed.D. - State Superintendent of Education.

To be selected for this honor schools must show an upward trend in results on the Illinois Standard Achievement Test of at least 7.5 points in percent of students meeting or exceeding standards in 2006-2007, or a 15 point increase from 2005-2007. Since 2005, Grayslake Middle School has shown a 15.1% improvement in the number of students meeting and exceeding in the areas of reading and math. In 2005 GMS had 72.1% of students meeting or exceeding in those two categories. Last year was up to 87.2%.

GMS continues to use proven teaching techniques that effectively strengthen all of the students' academic knowledge to ensure GMS students success for the future. Congratulations to the students and staff of Grayslake Middle School!
