Fourth Grade Parents - Frederick School Information
4th Grade Parents
If you know of any 4th grade parents not receiving this e-mail, please feel free to pass on the following information. Please also download the flyers that accompany this email.
This past week, the CCSD 46 Band Instructors stopped at all four elementary buildings to allow the students to tryout some of the band instruments and find out who might be interested in playing in the band next year. There will be an informational meeting for parents on Wednesday, June 2nd from 5-8 PM at Frederick School.
Wednesday, June 2nd is also our 4th grade parent orientation. Parents of fourth graders are encouraged to attend one of the two sessions offered on that day at Frederick School. The first session runs from 9:15-10:30 AM and the second session runs from 7-8:15 PM. Parents are encouraged to learn a little more about Frederick School and to take a tour of the building.
Kick-Off Camp registration is currently being accepted. Kick-Off Camp is for all incoming 5th graders and runs August 10-13 from 9 AM to 12:15 PM. The camp is designed to help incoming 5th graders feel comfortable with the transition to Frederick School and is run by the 5th grade teachers. Download the flyer.
Parents who are currently subscribed to the district's e-News off of the website are encouraged to add Frederick School to their group list so they can receive updates on the upcoming 2010-11 School year. To update your e-News groups, click the e-News icon on the district website (www.d46.org) and enter in your email address. You will be sent instructions on how to edit your group preferences. Make sure to add Frederick School.
Summer Reading and Math Packets:
Next week we will be distributing a summer reading novel and math packet to all 4th grade students at Avon, Meadowview, Prairieview, and Woodview Schools. The students learned about the books that are being offered this summer during their tour of Frederick School and were asked to make a first and second choice. Both the math packet and the novel will serve as opening discussion points in their new classrooms next year and will hopefully help to keep their reading and math skills fresh over the summer. There will also be information included on an opportunity for students who read up to 8 books over the summer, to earn a free book.
Please download the information regarding registration for next school year.
1) Registration fees paid on or before June 18 for students in grades 1-8 will receive a $25.00 discount.
2) All CCSD 46 families will still need to visit the Continuing Student Registration at Frederick School August 10-12
3) All incoming 6th graders are required to have a physical and dental examination in order to start school in August 2010.
Hopefully you find this information helpful. If ever you have any questions, feel free to contact either of us.
Grayslake Middle School is looking for crafters/vendors for the GMS 8th Grade Celebration Craft Show, Saturday, October 16, 2010. If interested, please download the application and return it with the appropriate fee.
Your input regarding the wellness night that took place Friday, April 23, 2010 would be greatly appreciated. Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey by going to the below link. I would like to continue to have annual wellness nights and feel your response to the survey will help in planning future wellness events. Thank you!
May 9-15 is Food Allergy Awareness Week. Did you know that over 12 million Americans have food allergies; more than 3 million of them are children (that's almost 1 out of every 25 kids). The most common foods that cause allergies are peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, wheat, and soy.
Presently, there is no cure for food allergies. The only thing we can do to protect ourselves or someone else with food allergies is to AVOID the foods that cause the allergy! That is why we have so many classrooms that are "Peanut Free" and why we have peanut free tables in the school cafeterias.
If your family lives within the boundaries of the schools of District 46: Avon School, Meadowview School, Prairieview School, Park Campus, Woodview School, Frederick School, or Grayslake Middle School, and you have children entering kindergarten, next school year take the opportunity that District 46 is offering and sign them up for the summer program "Second Language Jump Start."
Summer Academy Registration is here! Please download the course listing and registration forms. Summer Academy is open to all District 46 students who could benefit from remedial courses or wish to participage in enrichment classes. Bus service is not available for Summer Academy, transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
Early registration is encouraged. Classes will be filled in the order in which the registrations are received. Registrations can be mailed or delivered to Park Campus, 400 W. Townline Road, Round Lake, IL 60073. Phone registrations will not be accepted. All courses are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, which is determined by the date the registration form is received by your child's school or by the Summer Academy directors. A student's current grade level is used to register for Summer Academy programs.
Tuition for each class is $85.00. There will be no refunds given after June 16, 2010. CCSD 46 reserves the right to cancel any course that does not meet minimum enrollment requirements. Students and Parents will receive course confirmation by the first week of June.

Community Consolidated School District 46 is considering adding a half day, tuition based kindergarten for the 2010/2011 school year. Kindergarten students could have the option of full day experience at a tuition rate of approximately $3200 per year. Before proceeding with these plans, we need to determine the level of interest. Start Your Day Off Right!
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It provides your child with enough energy to get through the morning until lunch time. Evidence supports the link between eating breakfast and improved academics, reduced tardiness and absenteeism.
"Breakfast To Go" is offered daily to students for the price of $1.00. Students may purchase their breakfast as they enter the building and take it to their classroom to eat immediately or use as their daily snack . Twenty or ten day breakfast tickets may be purchased in advance. Visit the Food Service webpage for more information on our food service programs.
And Start Your Day Off Right with breakfast!!

*****FALL FESTIVAL & COSTUME PARADE CANCELED*****
In our continued effort to reduce the spread of the flu virus, Avon School Staff and PTF have decided to cancel our Family Fall Festival that was scheduled for tomorrow, October 30th. This decision was made after careful consideration of the number of cases of suspected cases of H1N1, and communication with the Lake County Health Department.
Additionally, we are canceling our traditional costume parades through the building. We are asking that ONLY parents who are scheduled to help with your child’s classroom party attend classroom parties on Friday. We also are asking that siblings remain at home.
As of today, it appears that our number of sick students is beginning to decline. We are hoping this trend continues in the week ahead. Hopefully, by minimizing the amount of social contact scheduled for the week ahead this decline will continue.
We thank you in advance for your understanding. We truly appreciate the extra measures that our staff has provided your students over the past few weeks, as well as your help in keeping sick children at home. We are diligently working to provide the safest environment possible for all of our students, staff and visitors.
Winners of our “Pumpkins and Poems” contest will be announced on Friday. Students may take their pumpkins home on Friday at the end of the day.
