Grayslake Middle School - Class of 2007
Ruben Robles graduated from Grayslake Middle School in 2007. He previously attended Frederick for grades 5-6, Avon Center School for grades 1-4 and Woodview School for kindergarten. Ruben has recently graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While in college he received the prestigious Knight of St. Patrick award for demonstrating leadership, excellence in character and making significant contributions to the college and his peers. Ruben was one of 12 students honored with this award in 2015. Ruben also participated this past year on the Hyperloop Challenge, an open competition announced by Spacex, to design and build a Hyperloop pod. The Hyperloop, a concept proposed by Elon Musk in 2013 to aid in high speed transportation, aims to connecting cities by low-pressure tube and transport people in a capsule that is electromagnetically accelerated to near sonic speeds. Ruben was part of the University of Illinois team that brought students together from many disciplines across campus. Ruben is now employed at Pinnacle AIS, helping to implement high integrity management systems in power industries.
Grayslake Middle School - Class of 2007
Katie Detweiler graduated from Grayslake Middle School in 2007. She attended D46 from kindergarten to 8th grade attending Woodview (K), Meadowview (1-4), Frederick (5-6), and GMS (7-8). She then went on to attend Grayslake North High School where she participated in volleyball, softball, and basketball, and was a member of National Honors Society. After graduating from Grayslake North, she attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she majored in Animal Sciences and minored in Integrative Biology. She also became a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. During college, she became passionate about animal nutrition and actively pursued opportunities to advance in the field. Katie graduated from the U of I this past spring and is now currently a professional intern at Disney's Animal Kingdom as an animal nutrition specialist. After completing her internship next January, Katie will return to the University of Illinois to pursue her masters in Animal Sciences.
Park Campus - Class of 2009
Mary McLeod was a 2009 graduate of the newly constructed Park Campus in Round Lake. She started her D46 career at Prairieview School for third and fourth grade, moving on to Frederick School for fifth and sixth grades and on to Park when it opened in 2009. Mary was "the voice of Park Campus" that first year, reading the morning announcements over the intercom before the Howler Broadcast was instituted. After graduation from Park, Mary went on to Grayslake Central High School and is now attending Northern Illinois University (go Huskies!) majoring in History with a minor in Political Science. She is also working on obtaining her teaching certificate, although her dream job would be working as a curator at the Smithsonian Institute. She is currently working in the Regional History Center and University Archives in Founders' Memorial Library in DeKalb. She credits Mrs. King at Frederick for making her a classroom helper and thus mastering the photocopier in 6th grade. Mary is a fixture here at CCSD 46 - she can often be seen at the District Office over the summer, or assisting me (her mom) with photographing 8th grade graduation dances, or attending concerts and plays at the district schools.
